Through its scientific research, educational and artistic activities and its commitment to the local and wider society, UP is building and consolidating its position as a respected and excellent university in the global academic space. The University has around 6,000 students and just over 700 staff, two-thirds of whom are teaching and research staff and one-third support and professional staff. UP is made up of 6 faculties, a research institute, a library, student hostels, a rectorate and centres. The University is a member of Transform4 Europe, which means that it has strong links with ten universities and is setting itself new European-oriented challenges. UP offers modern study programmes and trains students who represent a young motivated workforce, while being a generator of knowledge and progress in research.

Developing the Medicine study programme

UP embarked on the path of establishing and implementing the Medicine study programme boldly, but with the knowledge that this was also the wish of the wider community. With the support of both the professional and the general public and representatives of the media, we believe this will also be one of the success stories of the shared coast. A success story of an environment that thinks of challenges and open paths every time it looks at the horizon.

The building blocks have been laid down by a series of moments, by a series of facts - but we will follow the review from the first moment that sealed the decision, the Letter of Intent, and the steps from signatures and documents to the actual implementation. The Servite Monastery is the only monument of national importance in the historic centre of Koper. In addition to the famous Gothic-Renaissance cloister, it preserves within its walls and floors precious monuments of past periods - mosaics from Roman antiquity, structures from the High Middle Ages, and extensive Baroque alterations to the monastery building. In the minds of the local population (from Umag to the Karst), this building has become a lasting memory as a maternity hospital, a common birthplace. 

The online memory book of the old Maternity Hospital in Koper, a former Servite monastery, has been brought to life and is now undergoing renovation to give it a new lease of life by the University of Primorska. The renovated building will also be home to a memorial and museum room, where the UP also wants to present the time of the maternity and paediatric hospital, especially the memories of its inhabitants. We also invite you to sign the

UP Psychological Counselling Centre

The Psychological Counselling Centre of the University of Primorska, under the leadership of UP FAMNIT, Department of Psychology, has started its work. The Counselling Centre offers psychological support to students and ��ɫ����Ƶ in the form of individual sessions. It is staffed by trained counsellors who are involved in regular professional supervision. Counselling is free of charge for students and ��ɫ����Ƶ of the University of Primorska. You can also contact the counselling centre if you wish to talk in a confidential and safe environment.

Sport UP promotes health and well-being among students as well as academic and administrative staff of the University of Primorska. With activities organised at different locations in Koper throughout the year, there is something for everyone. Whether it’s a team sport like basketball, volleyball or football, or something more individual like weight lifting, swimming or yoga. Seasonal activities such as running, salsa and climbing are also available.

For students and staff, there is a fitness gallery located in the centre of Koper, in the University Gym. The polygon in Livade, Izola, consists of a horizontal and vertical slat, a parallel bars and five bars at different heights. The use of the polygon is free of charge for all users and is intended for UP staff and students as well as the local community. 

In line with the UP Medium-Term Development Strategy 2025-2030, UP is the first university in the Republic of Slovenia to set the goal of returning physical activity to the study programmes as a compulsory component.

NEBAP HUB

The New European Bauhaus Academy Pioneer Hub for Sustainable Built Environments with Renewable Materials (NEBAP Hub) is a newly established university centre focusing on sustainable built environments that are regenerative and inclusive spaces that minimise environmental impacts through decarbonisation and lead to positive societal and economic impacts, including health and wellbeing.

The NEBAP Hub offers traditional and online trainings for the construction ecosystem through the use of bio-based materials, digital technologies, and increased circularity in order to accelerate decarbonisation of homes and buildings in Europe and beyond; promotes a green, digital and inclusive transition within the construction ecosystem through the use of bio-based materials and works closely with the New European Bauhaus (NEB) community.

CeResAI UP - Centre for Responsible Artificial Intelligence

UP has established the Centre for Responsible Artificial Intelligence (CeResAI UP), which will be the central organisational unit for interdisciplinary, sustainable and ethical work in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The initiative follows a number of activities of UP in the field of AI, including the creation of position papers on the use of AI and cooperation with international institutions and strategic centres. The main objectives of CeResAI UP are: education and training; research; international cooperation; support to business and the wider public; and ethics and social development.

UNESCO Chair

The UP Faculty of Humanities in partnership with the Škocjan Caves Park has acquired a UNESCO Chair in Interpretation and Education to promote integrated approaches to heritage. The creation of the Chair was supported by 30 renowned national and international institutions from all over the world, ranging from universities, existing UNESCO Chairs to professional associations.

The Chair fills a gap in the existing UNESCO Chairs around the world, recognising that the key to sustainable heritage management lies in interpretation and education through integrated heritage approaches. The main guiding principle is participatory and "values-based" approaches that can achieve integrated and sustainable management of both natural and cultural heritage through community involvement.
