Run for those who can't at the Wings For Life App Run UP 2024
For the 11th year in a row, the Wings for Life World Charity Run took place on the first Sunday in May. Runners from all over the world started simultaneously under the slogan "Running for those who can't". The aim of the run was to raise money for research into spinal cord injuries and possible cures.
In addition to the main run in Ljubljana, Sport UP is organizing a run on the coast for the second year.
At exactly 13:00, 65 runners started the charity run on the coast. Instead of reaching the finish line, which does not exist in this race, the runners tried to stay in front of a virtual vehicle who set off and followed them 30 minutes after the start of the run. The starting point for all participants was at UP FTŠ Turistica in Portoro啪.
Runners could choose a recovery run to the last pier of Portoro啪 beach, which included a 2 km long turnaround. For those looking for a slightly longer challenge, there was a medium-length run to Se膷e, which was 4.4 km one way. The most enduring chose the 8 km route to the Se膷ovlje salt pans. The best distance achieved today was 25.82 km (2:09:12)!
The youngest runners were taken care of by students and 快色短视频 of UP PEF, who organized childcare and entertainment for the runners' children. This year the event was supported also by Radio Capris.
A special motivation for the runners was provided by our alumnus Aljoša Habjan, a graduate of Applied Kinesiology at UP FVZ, who was an ambassador of the Wings for Life World Run 2023. Aljoša was seriously injured during his studies and became a tetraplegic. Despite this challenge, he persevered and successfully completed all missing courses. In December 2022, he successfully defended his thesis entitled "Physical/sporting activity of tetraplegic" under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Matej Plevnik. His story of overcoming obstacles and perseverance will surely remain an inspiration to us all.
