Prime Minister and Rector sign Letter of Intent for the development of medical studies at UP
On Wednesday, 22 May 2024, a Letter of Intent for the development of the Unified Master's Degree in Medicine at the University of Primorska was signed at the premises of the University of Primorska. The Letter of Intent was signed by the Prime Minister, Dr Robert Golob, and the Rector of the University of Primorska, Dr Klavdija Kutnar, in the presence of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Valentina Prevolnik Rupel, and the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr Igor Papi膷.
In accordance with the decision of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia adopted at the Correspondence Session (20 May 2024), a Letter of Intent was signed for the development and implementation of a unified Master's degree programme in Medicine at the University of Primorska, which will contribute to solving the shortage of health professionals in the long term.
The University of Primorska had already started preparations and planning in 2020, and now the plan was suitable to ask the Government for support in establishing a single Master's degree programme in Medicine, which the Government supported and demonstrated by signing the letter. The signing was also attended by representatives of the public health institutions of the Primorska region, the mayors of P.I.K.A., In the framework of the already existing investment project "New building of the UP Faculty of Health Sciences", which was included in the current Development Programme Plan 2024-2027 in March this year, additional funds will be allocated for the purchase of specific laboratory equipment for the conduct of medical research or laboratory exercises, so that the facility will also be suitable for the conduct of educational and scientific research activities in the field of medicine. The envisaged new study programme in Medicine will be subject to funding in accordance with the legislation and strategies in force at the time of its (first) call for applications. Further activities for the establishment will start as from the date of signature.
