The UP Senate approves the application for accreditation of the single Master's degree programme in Medicine
In accordance with the announced timetable for the establishment of the Medicine study programme, the UP Senate at its 19th regular meeting (16 April 2025) approved the application for accreditation of the new Medicine study programme. It is a single Master's degree programme of the UP FVZ with a duration of 6 years (12 semesters) and a volume of 360 credit points.
Based on the decision of the Senate, UP submitted the application for accreditation of the Medicine study programme on the same day to the Council of the National Agency for Quality in Higher Education (NAKVIS) for further consideration and decision. By doing so, UP fulfilled its commitment in time as set out in the Letter of Intent for the development and implementation of the single Master's degree programme in Medicine at the University of Primorska, which was signed by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Robert Golob, and the Rector of the University of Primorska, Prof. Dr. Klavdija Kutnar, on 22 May 2024. In accordance with the prescribed procedures, the person authorised by NAKVIS to conduct the procedure will verify the formality of the application, and within one month of receipt of a complete application, the Council of the Agency will appoint a group of experts who, within three months of their appointment, will prepare a report on the fulfilment of the criteria for the accreditation of the study programme.
For the purpose of designing the new study programme, UP interviewed various healthcare providers and signed letters of intent with them to support and cooperate in the development and implementation of the study programme. It also built on the strong support of local mayors. This synergy is key to the further development of the new Medicine degree programme. In order to ensure transparent cooperation with all stakeholders, UP is also publishing all steps up-to-date on a dedicated web subpage.
