- UP FHŠ and UNESCO Chair joins the 1500th anniversary celebration of Koper
Koper is one of the oldest permanently inhabited cities in Slovenia and its origins are linked to St Nazarius or his consecration as Bishop of Koper in 524.The year 2024 will thus mark the 1500th anniversary and a year-long celebration in Koper. A number of institutions in Koper, including UP FHŠ, have come together to organise a varied programme to mark this important anniversary, and in December 2023, they presented the activities and the programme of the celebrations at a press conference at the Koper Regional Museum.
The Municipality of Koper (MOK), as the promoter of the project, invited a number of partners (Koper Regional Archives, Koper Regional Museum, Koper Diocese, Koper Theatre, Koper Science and Research Centre) to participate in the design and implementation of the Koper 1500 project, Institute for Youth, Culture and Tourism Koper, Sre膷ka Vilharja Koper Central Library, Centro Italiano Carlo Combi, Community of Italians Santorio Santorio Koper, ZVKDS OE Piran), including the UP Faculty of Humanities (UP FHŠ) and the UNESCO Chair. The project has involved numerous exhibitions, concerts, scientific symposia, the restoration of the Baptistery of St. Elijah, and will culminate in 2024. The celebrations were launched with the opening of an exhibition at the Regional Museum Koper Koper-Capodistria 1500 (period 524-932), and on 20 December, a facsimile of the Statute of Koper of 1423 (pictured), the original of which is preserved in the Venetian State Archives, was presented to the public.
UP FHŠ and the UNESCO Chair are involved in the programme through several activities, including an international conference on heritage interpretation, summer schools in August and September, exhibitions in the "Mala Lo啪a"and lectures for the public. Invitations to the events and the 1500 logo will be used to keep you informed about what is happening and what we are doing during the festive year of Koper.
At a press conference at the Koper Regional Museum in December 2023, the institutions presented their activities for the Jubilee Year.
The Statute of Koper of 1423 is a copy of the older original Statute of 1238-1239, which was supposedly burnt in a fire in 1380.
