Rector of the University

The Rector chairs and represents the University by:

• taking care of and being responsible for the legality of the work of the University and for the fulfilment of its obligations laid down by law, and other regulations and general acts of the University,
• coordinating the educational, scientific, research, or artistic, and other work of the Members of the University in the implementation of the national higher education programme and the national research and development programme,

The Rector of the UP, Prof. Dr. Klavdija Kutnar, was elected on November 23, 2023 for a four-year term of office (until November 22, 2027).

Senate of the University

The Senate of the University is the highest professional body of the University. Its most important tasks include:

• designs the development strategy of the University and proposes to the Founder to take appropriate measures for its realisation,
• adopts the annual work programme, the annual report and the development programme of the University and monitors their implementation,
• adopts the Statutes of the University,
• decides on the establishment or admission of a new or associate member to the University, the termination of University membership and other status changes of Members,
• adopts the general acts of the University for the field of educational, artistic, and scientific-research work of the University,
• adopts study programmes,
• approves the content of the call for enrolment,
• confirms the topics of doctoral dissertations,
• adopts the criteria and procedures for election into the titles of university lecturers, associates, and researchers, and grants Members of the University consent prior to first election into a title,
• decides on the granting of an honorary doctorate, the title of ‘Professor Emeritus’ and the title of ‘Honorary Senator of the University of Primorska’ and other awards of the University.

Administrative Board of the University

The Administrative Board is a managing authority which decides in particular on economic matters and manages the resources of the University.

Its most important tasks include:

• adopts the Statutes of the University,
• adopts general acts governing the governance and management of assets of the University,
• adopts the annual work programme, the annual report and the development programme of the University and monitors their implementation,
• gives prior consent to the acceptance or establishment of a new or associate member into the University,
• provides the Founder and the Rector with proposals and opinions on individual issues,
• adopts the starting points for job classification,
• adopts decisions on tuition fees, study fees, and the price list of accommodation and other services in Student Dormitories,
• adopts decisions on asset management and on the investments of the University,
• adopts the criteria for allocating annual funds for study activities,
• adopts other decisions regarding the management of the University.

Student Council of the University

The Student Council is a body of the University representing the interests of students.

The Student Council of the University addresses the Statute of the University and all matters relating to the rights and obligations of students, and gives the competent bodies of the University an opinion on them. The Student Council of the University forms opinions on candidates for the Rector of the University and elects members of the bodies of the University and their working bodies from the ranks of students, in accordance with the applicable legislation and these Statutes.

The Student Council of the University consists of presidents of Student Councils of Members of the University, and one representative of the Student Council of each Member elected by the Student Council of each Member.

The Student Council of the University cooperates closely with the student councils of its members and thus carries out certain activities through them, such as informing students, helping with various procedures and other activities.

The Board of Trustees (The Privy Council)

The Board of Trustees (The Privy Council) is the Rector's consultative body which can form opinions on the annual work programme, the annual report, and the development strategies of the University. The Rector appoints the representatives of legal persons from the field of economy, public sector, and municipalities, in the Board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees can form opinions on proposals for new study programmes, proposals for targeted research programmes and development research clusters or common technological bases through expert groups for study programmes and R&D.
