In the field of historical studies, since the formal beginning of its operation, UP has established itself as a Slovenian and European point of reference for researching the history of the border area of 鈥嬧媤estern Slovenia, and also as a main actor in asserting views on Slovenian history from its various geographical regions. By treating the coastal area as a place where cultures, mentalities, and nations meet, it has significantly contributed to the awareness and knowledge of the historical image of the Slovenian Mediterranean. Research activity includes research in economic, anthropological, sociological, ethnological, political, diplomatic, military, military-intelligence and cultural history.
In the field of 鈥嬧赌媓别谤颈迟补驳别, the research focuses on the heritage of the Mediterranean, specifically dealing with the Slovenian territory, the wider area of 鈥嬧媡he Mediterranean and the Balkans in different periods of the past and their involvement in the historical dynamics of economic and cultural events. They discuss the processes that influenced the development of cultural landscapes in the past and shaped the present-day image of the space. The research combines findings from archaeology, anthropology, ethnology, history, history of art, architecture, cultural studies, as well as specific disciplines such as museology, conservation, archival studies and tourism.
Research is carried out within the framework of national and international projects dedicated to various aspects of heritage and market research projects of preventive archeology. Projects of post-excavation processing of archives of archaeological sites are also carried out for various clients.
