Research in geography applies to general and regional geography, with an emphasis on the geographical area of 鈥嬧媍ontact between the Alpine, Dinaric and Mediterranean worlds of Western Slovenia. Research focuses on studying the characteristics of surface and underground karst waters, their vulnerability and importance, also in the light of global environmental (climate) changes. An important area of 鈥嬧媟esearch is the study of geographical aspects of sustainable development and environmental geography in general, with individual smaller projects connected to the actual narrower or wider space in which the university operates. Individual researches include the study of erosion processes on flysch, geographical evaluation of potentials for the development of rural and coastal areas. In the field of social geography, research is mostly related to the study of the geography of tourism, migration processes and economic geography. In the field of geography methodology, research is related to geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing (the use of lidar and sonar data in geography) and 3D modeling.
